No place like Home
I started on a Saturday and flew into Richmond where one of my favorite people on Earth, Heather, came to pick me up from the airport. We met my final semester in college but we were instantly in love with each other. We were kind of the same person really. She took me to my favorite place to eat, Qdoba. I’m still lamenting the loss of PC’s Qdoba. We drove around my Alma Mater, VCU (hey, did you hear we beat Duke?), and it was amazing to see how much my old campus had grown up in the short year I’ve been away. I spent the night hanging out in Richmond with other good friends at my old stomping ground, The Tobacco Company. I used to work at the restaurant/bar all through college and am still an adamant believer in the necessity of everyone working in the service industry for six months of their lives. But I digress. Anywhoo, if you’re ever in Richmond you should check the place out. Particularly the chocolate truffle dessert and whatever Cigar Girl is working. I’m a big fan of the Bella Vanilla cigars.
My sister, Amber, came to pick me up from Richmond and bring me home to see my parents in Chesapeake, which is about an hour and a half southeast nearly to Virginia Beach. Our first stop was to see my mom at the Firehouse. I always love going to see her there, particularly when I can find her name on the awards wall for being the best firefighter ever. She’s a pretty cool woman.
I was also lucky enough to see my daddy before he headed off shore. He’s a commercial fisherman and our schedules rarely match so its always a nice treat to get to give him a hug. Speaking of nice treats, my grandfather cooked my sister and I an amazing selection of Filipino foods. Growing up, you never could feed the two of us enough lumpia, pancit, or fried rice.
I spent a large portion of my time in Virginia laying around my parent’s house and visiting with extended family members. It was about the most perfect couple of days I could imagine… that is, when I wasn’t chasing lost Chihuahuas and being exhausted from shopping with my mother (that’s one thing we have in common, we both hate to shop).
For the final weekend of my trip I got to reunite with my college roommate, high school best friend, and sorority sisters. After hanging out in Richmond, having the best time imaginable, we headed up to D.C. to see my old roommate’s new town. I must admit, I am very very jealous. There’s no place quite like D.C. We walked around the National Mall and saw a couple of the Smithsonian museums before going to a concert on Sunday night. In my next life, that’s where I want to live.
The worst part of it all was saying goodbye again to my sister at the airport. She’s my other half. Check out the picture of the two of us in our matching sunglasses at the White House.
So now here I am, back in PC, loving the fact that it’s warm here and my friends are all getting colder by the minute. But back to work we go. Anyone have any good ideas about how to make 7,000th tax story entertaining?

About Me
I am a native of Chesapeake, Virginia. I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia in August, 2006. While there, I found time to be a cheerleader, a reporter for VCU Insight and the Recruitment Director for Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority. I'm totally enjoying my life as a Panama City Beach resident and my job as a reporter for News13. Local politics just facinate me and I'd love to hear from you about anything.
