Seek and Ye Shall Find

Accidental finds are a joy and relief for any bride-to-be. This past week I was on a quest to find a pirate costume for Panama City Roller Derby’s upcoming bout against the B-Funk Allstars from Atlanta. One of the girls on my team said she had found some pirate items at Party America, so that was my first stop. To my disappointment, the store did not have any pirate costumes, but they did have some decorations I could use in my wedding.

Josh and I decided on a fall themed wedding. I knew I could find some decorations closer to the wedding date, but I wasn’t expecting to find such affordable items at Party America. The store has all sorts of leaves, including cloth and metallic. One find I definitely wasn’t expecting was place cards. I bought a pack of 12 place cards for my families’s tables for less than $2. What a steal!?! My mom and I are going back this weekend to ransack their shelves.

On a separate note, I found a pirate costume at Sophia’s Costume Shop downtown. Nicold, Bunny and I were decked out as pirates for the bout. PCRD didn’t win, but we held our own and looked pretty good at the same time. You can see video of it here. Atlanta, just you wait till next time. We’ll see who bleeds then.

P.S. Joshua picked out the song for our first dance. He decided on “Better Together” by Jack Johnson. I like the song, but I told him everyone will think I picked it. He just doesn’t look like the Jack Johnson kind.

Do Not Panic! Or at Least Panic in your Predesignated Subgroups!

”I will not scream profanities. I will not insist on my own way on everything. I will not turn into a bridezilla.” This should be every bride’s mantra.

With less than three months to my big day, I’ve been trying to sew up loose ends. All but one bridesmaid is set on dresses. I’m still paying off the caterer, and then I have the cake lady, the DJ, the photographer and the party place. Sheesh!

I’m trying to decide on accessories for me, plus there’s still this matter of dress alterations. Eep! I still have to call the seamstress.

Today, Megan and Tuquyen and I were discussing how our fiancés aren’t being the help they promised to be. Megan’s fiancé hasn’t even asked his groomsmen if they’ll actually be his groomsmen. Tuquyen’s fiancé is being very indecisive about photo shoot locations.

For the last four months, I’ve been asking Josh for his friends’ mailing addresses. I finally gave up, and tracked some of them down through the magic of myspace. Luckily, one of his sisters found me on myspace this week; otherwise, I probably wouldn’t have been able to send her an invitation either.

Music is another big hurdle we have yet to overcome. Josh is in a band and is kind of a music snob. He’s very particular about the music we use. Every suggestion I’ve made has been measured and weighed before being set aside. Yet again, I’ve given up. I’m making my list. Josh can make his. Let the DJ sort it out.

I just keep reminding myself to take big, deep breathes. Remember, wedding day is almost here, but that also means all the craziness is almost over, too. Hurray for my sanity!

This is my Cat Post

I can’t remember if it was Neil Gaiman or Stephen Fry who said that if you have a blog, ultimately you will end up writing about your cat. Whoever said it was right, and this is mine.

Dogs and I get along very well. (Except for my dentist’s dog, but she hated everyone.) I have to admit, though, that I am a cat person.

Dogs are cute and cuddly, but I do hate getting up in the middle of the night to take them outside. Cats are also cute and cuddly, but they can take care of themselves. And they do everything with style.

Wymm is my engagement kitty. She came to live with me just before Christmas.. I wrote about the experience in my January post “Let’s Have a Wedding.”

Wymm is completely convinced that she’s my baby, so much that when my to-be-mother-in-law asked when I’m going to give her grandchildren, I told her she already had a fluffy one. Vicki believes this to be a very poor choice in a granddaughter. I think it’s just because she’s allergic.

My fiancé brought home Wymm from the Humane Society of Bay County. Because of the crazy state of our economy, the humane society has hit rough times and needs your help to keep going. It is currently has a goal to raise $100,000 by September. If you’re interested, you can visit the Bay County Humane Society. Without the humane society, so many animals will suffer.

Give other puppies and kittens, like Wymm, a chance to lead happy lives.

About Me

I'm a fourth generation Floridian. I have degrees from Chipola Junior College (when it was still a junior college) and the University of West Florida. When I was at UWF, I lived off of exit 13. Back in Panama City, I began working at News 13 on November 13th, 2006. Thirteen has proved to be my lucky number. Last year, I joined the Panama City Roller Derby League. When I'm not providing the Panhandle with the latest news, I'm tearing up the track with over 20 other roller girls, two of which are also News 13 employees. I'm sure I drive everyone at work insane with all my talk of derby. But hey, that's how I roll.
