Ch-ch-ch-changes

Life is all about changes. And boy, that was never truer than now. In fact, that is pretty much my theme for 2008.

1. I’m getting married! It’s so crazy to think that by this time next year I’ll be a wife. And there are so many other titles that come with being married.

My sister and I switch back and forth between Spanish and English when we talk to or email each other. No Latin blood in our family that I’m aware of, but Spanish is such a beautiful language, why not make use of it?

In a recent email, I started to type senorita but realized that Rona’s married now. She is no longer a senorita. She’s a senora. Weird. When we were learning Spanish, we both pictured a senora as someone much older. We’ll both be senoras soon. Why do I suddenly feel old?

2. News 13 is sold. This is good. I’m all for moving forward, and the new company is bound to bring fresh ideas to the table. The sale doesn’t worry me at all. To be honest, I look forward to seeing what comes of it.

3. PCRD is winning! So far we’ve won both games this season. It was a welcome relief after losing every game last year. I hope we continue the streak, but I do regret that between wedding planning and work, I don’t have as much time for derby. I’ve been there for my girls as much as I can be, and they’re doing great besides the little help I can offer. I’m still bummed that I can’t make more practices. Grrrr.

It’s almost April, but I know there are even more changes laying in wait. Some I can see and others are going to surprise me. It feels a little overwhelming, but it’s an adventure. And as my sister and best friend can attest, I have never been once to turned down an adventure, no matter how terrifying or dangerous it may seem.

I think it was Winnie the Pooh who said, “Today seems like a good day for an adventure.” If it wasn’t Pooh, it was someone equally as intelligent, and he or she was right. It is.

About Me

I'm a fourth generation Floridian. I have degrees from Chipola Junior College (when it was still a junior college) and the University of West Florida. When I was at UWF, I lived off of exit 13. Back in Panama City, I began working at News 13 on November 13th, 2006. Thirteen has proved to be my lucky number. Last year, I joined the Panama City Roller Derby League. When I'm not providing the Panhandle with the latest news, I'm tearing up the track with over 20 other roller girls, two of which are also News 13 employees. I'm sure I drive everyone at work insane with all my talk of derby. But hey, that's how I roll.
