Randomness
As I’m sure you’ve figured out already, I’m really bad about this whole blog thing. I know that blogs are supposed to be updated often, even several times a day ... but my life just isn’t that exciting. So in an attempt to figure out something to blog about, you’ll have to bear with my randomness.
The past 3 weekends I’ve been down in Gainesville (even if for only a day) for the football games. The Western Kentucky and Troy games were good starts, but blowing out Tennessee was amazing. Old Rocky Top just crumbled in the Swamp!
This week my team is in Oxford, Mississippi to take on the Ole Miss Rebels. I’m planning on watching the game with the Panhandle Gator Club. This will be the first time I’ll be able to do anything with the group.
It seems like the Seminole powers-that-be here in the Panhandle are trying to keep me from my people! Every time the Gator Club has an event or regular meeting, it turns into one of those crazy days at work and miss it. Hopefully nothing will come up this weekend.
I’ve been able to do some stories at work this week that I’ve really enjoyed. I like doing softer, feature type stories - I feel like that’s really where my skills lie.
On Sunday I did a really sweet story about a soldier and his wife. They met online and later fell in love, then he got deployed to Iraq.
When he left they had planned on getting married in June 2008, but those plans quickly changed. They realized they wanted to get married as soon as possible, so in March, with him still in Iraq, they were married over the phone!
The soldier came home on leave this past week and took his wife to Disney to celebrate seeing each other for the first time since saying “I do.” He had planned this big, romantic proposal during their dinner at Cinderella’s Castle (even though they were married, he wanted to go through all the steps that most people go through). It was a very sweet, feel good story.
The other story I enjoyed this week dealt with the old Bay Line train depot. This depot was built in 1924 and brought Panama City from just another sleepy Gulf town to what it is today. I love history, so a history related story is right up my ally. I like fading between current video and old photographs to show how much things have changed.
It’s sad that this historic building is going to be torn down, but if there was a chance to save it, the effort should have begun 25 years ago.
I was hoping this weekend would be nice as far as the weather goes, but it doesn’t look like that’s going to work out for me.
I haven’t been to the beach in over a month, and the slight tan I was able to get over the summer is quickly disappearing.
You’ll notice very soon just how pale my skin is naturally. But if it’s a trade off between good beach weather and a bad Gator game, or a stormy day and another victory ... I’ll take the rain any day!
“Neath the Orange and Blue VICTORIOUS our love shall never fail. There’s no other name so GLORIOUS all hail, Florida hail.”
Go Gators! :-)

About Me
Hey there... I've spent all my life in the Sunshine State. I grew up in the small town of Lecanto, Florida and I'm very excited about starting my career at WMBB... and living near the beach is just a big plus for me. I recently graduated from the University of Florida so of course, I'm a big Gator fan. If you have a few minutes, you can shoot me an email - malbright@wmbb.com. I'd love to hear from you.
