A Piece of History
I interviewed one of the members of the Bay County Historical Society about the building likely being demolished soon, and I have to say I feel awful that nothing has been done to save it.
When you think about it, it really is a key part of Panama City’s history, and future generations will never be able to see it, or will ever get an idea of what Bay County was like before the railroad.
I must also admit I’m blogging right now because it’s pouring rain outside, and I don’t want to leave just yet. I’m excited about going to the American Cancer Society’s kickoff party for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. I did the walk last year, along with Jessica Foster and some other News 13 employees.
We had a great time there, and it’s tinged with a bit of sadness. Kari, the special guest at last year’s walk, died of breast cancer a few months later. I remember meeting her, helping the reporter with the interview, and hearing how hopeful she was that she could get through it. It just shows how big an impact cancer can have.
My fiance’s mother passed away from cancer, so it’s a personal issue for me as well. That’s why I’ve volunteered to be on the team recruitment committee for the Panama City Beach Relay for Life. I hope I can do my part to honor all those who have suffered from cancer.
Tomorrow is Friday! Even though I have to work the weekend, I still look forward to Fridays and enjoying the evening with friends.

It’s that time again…
I don’t really have anything clever to say tonight. I’m again just counting down until I can go home and enjoy another weekend.
Megan and Mark both did great work tonight on their respective stories. I have to say my heart breaks for the family of the 7 year-old who died in the plane crash last week. He sounded like a great child who just loved adventure.
Plus, Sgt. Joshua Cope is just an inspiration, and today’s turnout by the community was also inspiring. It just shows how much everyone cares about those who are protecting us. To all members of our armed forces, thank you for all you do.
I have to say I’m excited about Monday because I’m going to see “The Simspons” movie. I’m a fan through my fiance, and I have to say I’m interested to see what all the fuss is about considering our own Springfield was in a contest to host the premiere.
It was an interesting week, though. The biggest thing that sticks out is the change at the Gulf County Sheriff’s Office all playing out over a few hours on Friday afternoon. I’ve also been puzzled all weekend because our handheld scanner has been missing since Friday, and I usually take that one home overnight on the weekends to make sure we don’t miss breaking news. I hope it returns safely to the newsroom (hint hint).
Have a great start to the work week, everyone! Don’t forget, the tax-free holiday starts on Saturday, August 4th and runs through the 13th. I know I’ll be out shopping to get in on some savings!

One more hour
On Friday night, I spent the evening with other Georgia fans and alumsat a Barbeque. We even had a bulldog there! Tucker may not be Uga VI, but he ranks pretty close to the Dawg legend.
I’m excited about my approaching “weekend”, which starts in about an hour. We’ve been trying new things with the newscast, and our innovations, even though they make the newscast better, usually put more stress on us. We also had a technical issue with the machine that downloads our national/international video, so we lost a two minute piece for the 5:00 show today.
It’s been an interesting weekend. There was a small brush fire north of Back Beach Road this evening, but it took a while for crews to reach it. We had a house fire last night about an hour before the newscast, too.
On Friday, I was also recognized by my colleagues with the News 13 Employee of the Month award for my sweeps piece on grouper DNA
testing. It was nice to know that my co-workers appreciated my hard work, because I really put my heart and soul into making that piece. I’ve also gotten a lot of positive feedback from some of you, and I want you to know that also means a lot.
Only a couple of weeks left in July sweeps. Have a great start to the work week, everyone! I’ll be enjoying the beach.

About Me
I was born and raised in the hills of northeast Georgia, in a little town called Gainesville near the sparkling waters of Lake Lanier. My parents are Vietnamese immigrants who came to the U.S. more than 20 years ago. The sacrifices they've made for me to have a better life have made them my inspiration. I feel extremely honored that you've chosen to put your trust in me. I'm happy to be here in Panama City, and I look forward to getting to know you.
