A Georgia girl’s favorite season…

This is a picture from Tuquyen Mach's News13 Blog

Like thousands of Georgia fans, I bleed red and black.  I’m a lover of all things that say “UGA”, especially Uga VI, that symbol of all that’s right with the world of Athens, Georgia.  And when football season rolls around, watch out!

As secretary of the Emerald Coast UGA Club, I take my role seriously in helping Dawg fans band together against the evil that is the Gators (sorry, Megan, I like you otherwise!) and all other teams that use the dreadful color orange.

I had a great time on Friday at our Football Season Kick-off Party, where the legendary Zeke Bratkowski and his lovely wife Mary spent time talking football with us.  They are the nicest people, and it was great to listen to Zeke’s stories about his days as quarterback in the early 1950’s and then his days in the NFL as a player and a coach.

You can bet I’ll be wearing my red and black on Saturday as we open the season against Oklahoma State, and even though the game will be starting as I get ready for the 6:00 news, you can bet I’ll be paying close attention to what’s going on between the hedges.

Our UGA club members and other fans usually gather at Calypso’s on Panama City Beach to watch the games there, but unfortunately I’ve only been able to go to one or two games because I usually have to work while the games are going on.

My co-workers usually look at me like I’m crazy while I’m watching the game.  Usually I sit at my desk and work while I have the game playing on the TV that’s right overhead.  When something happens I’ll either be screaming for joy or in disbelief.  I think I’ve scared Mark and Kyle before… Jessica understands, though, because she’s a Georgia alum as well, though I think I get into the game a bit more than she does!

I’ll be going to the Ole Miss game at the end of September though, and you can bet I’m excited about that!

As the old saying goes, you can take the girl out of Georgia but you can’t take the Georgia out of the girl.  Go Dawgs!  Sic ‘em!  Woof, woof, woof!

About Me

I was born and raised in the hills of northeast Georgia, in a little town called Gainesville near the sparkling waters of Lake Lanier. My parents are Vietnamese immigrants who came to the U.S. more than 20 years ago. The sacrifices they've made for me to have a better life have made them my inspiration. I feel extremely honored that you've chosen to put your trust in me. I'm happy to be here in Panama City, and I look forward to getting to know you.
