Amendment Watch - Amendment 1: Relating to Property Rights/Ineligible Aliens

A Look at Proposed Amendments - Amendment 1

Florida residents all know that on November 4th Americans will elect the next president and vice president, but Florida residents also need to be prepared to vote on the 6 proposed amendments to the Florida State Constitution; Amendments 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 8.

News 13 is taking a look at each of the proposed amendments to bring Bay County residents an overview of each, and wants to hear your opinions on the amendments.

Passage of Amendment 1 would remove the phrase, “…except that the ownership, inheritance, disposition and possession of real property by aliens ineligible for citizenship may be regulated or prohibited by law.” For a PDF of the amendment, click here.

Although Amendment 1 is not as controversial as, say, Amendment 2, it’s still important. This amendment, if passed, would delete these regulations for aliens ineligible for citizenship. It was placed on the ballot on May 18, 2007 by the Florida Legislature.
