Candidate Comments: Eddie Hendry for US House of Representatives, Dist. 2

News 13 would like to provide candidates with an additional outlet to educate voters. We have offered candidates facing opposition in Primary Election an opportunity to tape a message to voters. Below are the statements as written by the candidates, followed by their taped message to voters.

Ladies and Gentlemen:

I believe this is one of the most important elections of our time.  We cannot continue the type of representation we have had in the past and expect things to change.  Special interest, lobbyists, and the current political culture continue to promote reckless and irresponsible spending and public policies.  It will take common sense leadership, individuals and coalitions willing to challenge the current political system and those controlling it.  We must transform the present culture and return our government back to serving the interest of each and every citizen.

My name is Eddie Hendry and I am a candidate for US House of Representatives, Florida Congressional District 2.  I was born in Taylor County and raised in Leon County.  I attended Godby High School in Tallahassee and graduated from the Citadel in 1981 with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science.  I served five and a half years as a commissioned officer in the army and for the last 10 years have been employed by sanofi-aventis as a diabetes specialty representative in the Tallahassee area.  I have been married to my wife Angela for 20 years and we have two children, Courtney 18 and Grant 14.

I am a firm believer in the Second Amendment rights as it pertains to gun ownership and I believe strong families and moral faith should be the backbone of our society.  Our biggest obstacle to stronger and sustainable growth is our current tax structure.  The most studied and best tax solution that I have seen is the Fair Tax.  This tax replaces the current federal income and payroll tax system with a national consumption tax.  In addition, we must balance our budget.  The federal government is spending way too much tax payer money running up large budget deficits and adding earmarked pork projects that are unnecessary and wasteful.  The federal government is overstepping their constitutional authority and a lot these issues should be handled by state and local governments.  I believe we should be energy independent by using all of our resources available including oil exploration in ANWR and offshore drilling.  We must build more nuclear power plants and continue to develop alternative energy sources from wind, solar and hydroelectric.

In summary, there are real solutions to these issues if we can cut through the red tape that is currently in Washington and if you agree with my platform on these issues, please vote for me Eddie Hendry, candidate for the US House of Representatives, Florida Congressional District 2 on August 26th.
