Baha System

Panama City, Fla. - Imagine not being able to hear.  It’s a reality for many Americans, but now a new procedure is helping those who are deaf in only one ear hear again.  Carrie Gronbeck spent 49 years of her life struggling to hear because she’s deaf in her right ear.  That has now changed thanks to the Baha system.

“It was an easy procedure, easy recovery, and it has made a huge difference,” Gronbeck explains.  Doctors placed a small titanium screw behind Gronbeck’s ear.  It was an outpatient procedure.  A processor is placed on the screw.  The skull vibrates and sound is rerouted to the ear.

The Baha processor is only about the size of a quarter and comes in different colors to match a person’s hair.  Gronbeck says it’s discrete and has changed her life.  Head and Neck Surgeons Dr. Hans Caspary and Dr. Quang Tran performed Gronbeck’s procedure and say the procedure had never before been performed in the Panhandle.
