Bay County Veterans Council - Fact Finding meeting
The Fact Finding Meeting call for May 31, 2007, will be held three day’s after Memorial Day, 2007, which falls on May 28th this year, an appropriate time to offer assistance to Veterans in need.
Six Months ago, Governor Crist, Who at the time was Florida’s Attorney General, signed a Resolution, along with the previous Governor and other Cabinet members, that they encourage citizens to participate in local Veterans Day activities honoring the men and women who have stood watch over America.
On May 1, 2007- in an effort to draw attention to the personal sacrifices of the men and women of the armed forces and their families, Congress has designated May as National Military Appreciation Month.
In 2004, Congress, both the House and Senate, passed a resolution, in part that urged the President to issue a proclamation calling on the people of the United States, localities, organizations and media to annually observe the month with appropriate ceremonies and activities.
“Our military has played a major role in the development of our country chronicled through their unbending honor, their dedication to duty and their love of country, “
We feel May 31, 2007, following Memorial Day, is an ideal time to invite our State and local leaders to share with us the plight of many of our Comrades, who need help returning to society after having served honorably in our all-volunteer military service.
The help, that was authorized by the President, was initiated by one patriotic person in Northwest Florida and has been funded mostly by member organizations of the Bay County Veterans Council, but access to funds available through HUD grants and local contributions has been denied, because of alleged technicalities.
A Program to help rehabilitate Veterans in need and their families has been in place here for two years and plea’s for help from State, County and Local authorities have gone un-answered, thus our call for a Fact Finding Meeting, May 31, 2007, to prevent this much needed program from falling through the cracks.
The Certified Letter you recently received requires your utmost attention, if our needy Veterans and their families are to be moved from living in Florida’s woods and on our streets and given the assistance they desperately need, to return to society as the useful citizens they were before they served.
Please plan to attend and participate in this important meeting. Each participant will be provided ample time (5 minutes suggested) to comment on the subject, Ms. Amy Hoyt, anchor for WMBB TV our local ABC affiliate will serve as the meeting Facilitator, to insure proper etiquette and decorum is maintained.
