Bozeman Prepares For Baker

SAND HILLS - It’s been a busy few days for the Bozeman baseball team.  On Friday, the Bucks (18-7) won the District 2-2A championship 8-6 over Ponce de Leon.

The win marks the first championship of any kind for the Deanne Bozeman School.

On Saturday night, the team celebrated the victory in grand fashion with the school’s prom at the Holiday Inn in Panama City.

“It’s the first time any team at Bozeman has done anything like this,” catcher Cody Strickland said.  “We’re just excited to be in this position and we want to give it everything we got.”

Bozeman is now preparing for a regional quarterfinal match-up with Baker (6-17) on Tuesday 7 p.m. at Gulf Coast Community College’s Bill Frazier Field.

The Bucks beat Baker in the first game of the season 7-6.  In that game, Bozeman jumped out to a 6-0 lead.  But defensive mistakes allowed Baker to tie the game at six.  Bozeman’s Mark Christensen delivered with the game winning run-scoring double in the seventh inning.

Dustin Duncan will be the starting pitcher for Tuesday’s game.  Duncan also started the district championship game.  He had a tough time finding rhythm against PDL.

Head coach Jeff Patton said that his boys are excited to play.  A few of them actually came out to take some swings on their off day.

“Some of the kids just like to come up and get some swings on the cage on Sundays,” Patton said.  “We don’t do it very often, but some of the kids know I’m up here and they’ll come up and hit a little bit on their own.”

Rutherford’s baseball team is also in action on Tuesday.  The Rams (22-5) will travel to last year’s District 2-5A State Champion Pace High School (24-3).
