Chipola and Gulf Coast Advance To Semis
MARIANNA - Gulf Coast coach Roonie Scovel knew her Lady Commodores were nervous going into the FCCAA State Tournament quarterfinals 71-56 win over Santa Fe. She just didn’t know how nervous.
“This is what nine freshman do to you at tournament time,” coach Scovel said.
The Lady ‘Dores led 30-27 at halftime. Coach Scovel said that it’s fortunate that her team had the lead when they were playing so poorly and Santa Fe was playing so good.
It was the freshman that stepped up. Jasmine Brown led the team in scoring with 13 points and Demauria Liles added 10.
“There’s a lot of people here. It’s different,” Scovel said. “You just want to move on. You don’t care how it is. it wasn’t a pretty game, but we’re moving on.”
Gulf Coast will play Seminole CC in the semifinals on Friday at 1 p.m. at Chipola College.
Chipola coach David Lane’s Lady Indians won 76-61 over Miami-Dade. Chipola plays Tallahassee CC in the semifinals on Friday at 6 p.m.
