Chipola Gaining Confidence

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The Chipola Indians are just taking care of business these days.

The Indian offense poured it on Connors State in the opening round of the JUCO World Series Saturday, 22-2.

The Indians pounded out 19 hits, hitting five homeruns, including sixth inning grand slams from Tyler Bumgarner and Brett Maxwell.

I asked Head Coach Jeff Johnson if Saturday’s win will be a confidence boost for the Indians the rest of the tournament.

“Well I think it goes one of two ways. It could either be a confidence boost for you to where everybody plays at ease and you get a lot of at bats and you have a lot of success,” said Chipola Head Coach Jeff Johnson.

“Hopefully it works that way to where it is confidence in a positive way. Hopefully it doesn’t work in a way where we don’t prepare and we realize what it takes to win baseball games.”

“You know, not going up there and swinging for the fences and being an individual. So, hopefully it’s a confidence in a positive way, instead of an over-confidence in thinking you don’t have to prepare to win the next game,” said Johnson
