Commodores Complete Series Sweep

PANAMA CITY - Despite the dreary, cold, wet weather for Saturday’s season opening double-header, the Gulf Coast baseball could not have been happier with the outcome; winning both games, and completing the three-game series sweep on Sunday afternoon.

The Commodores (3-0) beat Young Harris 9-4 at Bill Frazier Field.  Pitcher Dayne Cutrell (1-0) got the win and Curt Trexler (1) picked up the three inning save.

Mason Meredeth scored the first run of the game in the first inning on a fielder’s choice.  Scott Beckwith ground into a 6-4-3 double play allowing Meredeth to score.

In the third inning, Meredeth was a one-man wrecking crew, taking Will Harvil’s pitch to deep left field for a solo home run.  Meredeth homered in the first game of yesterday’s double-header, too.

GCCC’s David Schulze hit a grand slam home run in the seventh inning and Beckwith added a home run of his own.

Gulf Coast plays again Feb. 1 against North Shoals CC at 4 p.m. at Bill Frazier Field.
