Commodores Run-Rule PJC
PANAMA CITY - The Gulf Coast Community College baseball team won the rubber-match of it’s three game series with Pensacola Junior College 9-1.
The Pirates took an earlier 1-0 lead in the first inning, but that’s all they would get. The Commodores (23-12, 6-6) scored four runs in the bottom half of the inning. It started with Mason Meredeth reaching on an error. Alex Kubal promptly doubled to the left field corner scoring Meredeth, who advanced to second on a throwing error.
The next batter, Scott Beckwith singled to right field to load the bases. Then David Schulze was plunked on the shoulder on a full count pitch to walk in a run.
Freshman Drew Benton delivered the big blow of the inning. The Rutherford High School alum singled passed a diving shortstop scoring Beckwith and Jake Sullivan.
Pitcher Bryam Garcia improved his record to 5-0.
Gulf Coast will play North Florida CC on Monday at 5 p.m. at Bill Frazier Field.
