Graff Twins Sign Softball Scholarship

SPRINGFIELD - Melia and Malina Graff, twin sisters who play on the Rutherford softball team, each signed letters of intent Friday afternoon at the Shamplain Sports Complex to play for Alabama Southern Community College next season.

“We just hit it off immediately,” Alabama Southern coach Elaine Covin said.  “I’ve just got to have them ‘cause we we’re so comfortable with each other.  I had watched them play a bit and was very impressed by them.  So, I got’em!”

Coach Covin watched the twins play in a softball tournament last year at Frank Brown Park.

“The coach is wonderful,” Melia said.

“She’s very bubbly,” Malina added.

“She’s like our Mom and Dad,” Melia said.  “She reminds us of all the Panama City people.  She’s really sweet, she made us feel like we’re at home.

“She could be a good motherly figure cause we’re leaving.”

Both ladies had almost identical stats last season, batting .380 and leading the team with 15 RBI’s.

Melia and Malina also do well in the classroom with 4.0 grade point average.  After college, Melia plans on being a veterinarian and Malina a dermatoglogist.

How ‘bout the legacy left on Rutherford High School?

“Hmmm.  Twin sisters that like to play ball and will do anything to help a team out and just have fun,” Melia said.  “Hopefully we’ll leave the legacy of try-hard!”

“Wow.  that’s bad,” Malina commenting on Melina.

The twins also have a younger sister, Tori, who play on the team, too.  The Lady Rams’ first game of the season is on Saturday against Niceville.
