Lady ‘Dores Win Season Opener

PANAMA CITY – The Gulf Coast softball team continued where they left off.  The Lady Commodores, ranked No. 1 in Florida and No. 2 in the nation, swept Thomas University (GA) in Saturday afternoon’s double-header.

Pitcher Sarah Dooling, who won 32 games last season, picked up the win in the 6-4 victory in Game 1.  Freshman pitcher Brooke Ross collected her first career win in the 5-4 Game 2 win.

The Lady ‘Dores (2-0) play again on February 10 in a tournament in St. Augustine, Fla.

Baseball:  Gulf Coast 6, Andrew College 2

PANAMA CITY - The Commodores’ baseball team won its sixth straight game on Saturday beating Andrew College 6-2.

Freshman pitcher Dan Jacobs (1-0) picked up his first win of the season.  Freshman Bryam Garcia (1) pitched three innings to get his first save of the season.

Cory Trudell led the team in hitting with a three-run home run in the fourth inning.  Designated hitter Scott Beckwith went 3-for-4.

The Commodores (6-0) will play their first road game Sunday against Jeff Davis CC in Brewton, Ala.
