Mosley and Bozeman Spring Practice Reports
LYNN HAVEN- “We’re looking for depth, we’re looking for kids who can come in and we can get some good solid back ups, so we won’t have so many guys going both ways,” said Mosley Head Coach Perry Brown.
That’s the plan for the Mosley Dolphins this spring, adding on depth to a team that that went 6-4 last season, just missing out on the playoffs.
One position that is receiving a lot of attention, the quarterback spot.
“The quarterback spot is very important. That’s your next coach on the field out there,” said Brown.
Right now, the Dolphins are looking at a former starter to take back the reigns of the quarterback job, senior Chase Graves.
Graves was the starter his sophomore year, then moved to receiver last year, and now he has his eyes back on the signal caller role.
He knows there are certain things he must conquer.
“You’ve got to make sure you can pass good and get the snaps, hand-offs, make sure you do good hand offs, and just be able to take control of the team,” said senior Chase Graves.
“They have to be a good leader, and not necessarily win the game, but don’t lose the game,” Brown stated.
In the end, the new quarterback has to be a leader.
“You’ve got to be able to take control of the huddle. We’ve got some rowdy kids, but you have to be able to take control of the huddle,” said Graves.
BAY COUNTY- We head north on Highway 77 where the Bozeman Bucks continue to knock heads for spring training.
The Bucks are on the same boat as the Dolphins, they must find a new starting quarterback to replace Andrew Brannon who led the team to a 5-4 record last season.
“Andrew Brannon has probably taken all but a handful of snaps for us the last two years at the varsity level. To replace him has been a challenge, but it has been exciting too,” said Bozeman Head Coach Loren Tillman.
Why so exciting you may ask, because the Bucks are running with three quarterbacks during the spring.
The trio includes last year’s starting running back, Mason Bennett, last season’s JV quarterback, Louie Roberson, and a rookie to the football team, but not to Bozeman athletics, a pitcher for the Bucks baseball team, Travis Register.
“This spring we’re going to go with three during our jamboree. We’re going to go by packages; it’s not going to be based on running or passing. We want to look at all three of them on tape,” said Tillman
Bennett feels the trio can be pretty successful.
“I think we’ll combine to be pretty good. Travis has been throwing the ball pretty well and Louie can get in there and he can run or he can throw and I think we are going to be pretty good. That way every time a quarterback steps out there, there will be that threat of that quarterback running or passing,” said senior Mason Bennett.
