Not A Gator Yet
PANAMA CITY – There’s a million questions running through Bert Reed’s concerning where he’ll be playing college football next season.
Earlier this year, Bay High School quarterback Reed verbally committed to play for the Florida Gators, most likely as a wide receiver.
Now, Reed is considering to go with the school he grew up cheering for, Florida State.
“I’m taking the visit this weekend,” Reed said. “Me and my mom are going to check out the campus and academics and see what these (Florida State) coaches are talking about.”
With a precious few scholarships remaining at Florida and five-star prospects filling them up, there’s a concern for immediate playing time.
“Florida runs a five wide receiver set,” Reed said. “Coach Gonzalez was telling me that if we have 10 wide receivers, then you’re a number two guy.”
Coaches from both schools talked with Reed in Panama City this week.
After watching video of Reed, Florida State’s new offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher called Reed right away.
“Jeff Bowden didn’t like my size or ability I guess with his offense, but Coach Fisher called me right away while he was watching the film. He wanted to feature me in the offense. I found that interesting and want to find out more.”
Reed will make an official visit to Tallahassee on Saturday. Rumor has it, if he does visit Florida State, Florida will pull it’s scholarship from Reed.
“Really I’m getting an education, so I can’t be disappointed either way it goes,” Reed said. “I’ll be happy with either decision. If they pull the scholarship that’s on them, I’ll go to Florida State and do what I have to do.”
Reed will have his decision on Sunday.
