One on One: Catherine Zehner

It takes at least 20 thousand dollars a month to run the Humane Society of Bay County. Right now, the animal organization is running at at deficit. Marketing Director Catherine Zehner blames it on a slow economy. But something has to be done in the next 90 days or the county animal shelter will have to close its doors.

Zehner says they are looking for corporate sponsors to step up and make sizeable donations for the year, and for smaller fundraisers to continue to take place as well. She also says the Humane Society Thrist and Gift store on 23rd street is going to be revamped. “The shelter needs financial donations, the the thrift store needs reliable volunteers and donations of items like name brand clothing and furniture,” she said.

For more information on how you can help, call 628-4048.  You can also adopt a cat for free at the shelter located behind the Panama City Police Department on 15th street.

Thanks so much for the informative article about nesting sea turtles in this area.  We need to get the message out that our beaches are sea turtle nesting habitat and people need to respect the beach in that way.  When leaving pick up your trash, items to brought to the beach, fill in your holes, and if you go on the beach at night, always use red colored light bulb flashlights or no flashlight. Our night skies are beautiful.  Our visitors and residents are very important to us and so are sea turtles.  Thanks so much and keep up telling people about sea turtles
