One on One: Dr. Charles Nichols
Dr. Charles Nichols is a Radiation Oncologist at Bay Medical Center. He says women over 40 should start getting mammograms once a year. He says with technology improvements, breast cancer can be found at an early stage and treated. “Breast Cancer no longer means death”, says Dr. Nichols. There are several stages of breast cancer and several kinds of treatment, all available in Bay County.
Self examination, doctor visits and annual mammagrams are the best defense a woman has against the disease. Dr. Nichols says the biggest misnomer is that only women with a history of the illness in their family are at risk. All women are at risk and should be checked.
