One on One: Steve Meadows

The Medical Examiners Commission for Florida is not recommending a contract renewal for 14th circuit Medical Examiner Dr. Charles Siebert. They say he was dishonest in his autopsy findings in the boot camp death of Martin Anderson. Dr. Siebert found that the teenager died from complications of sickle cell trait after an altercation with boot camp guards. His contract ends June 30th and an interim ME needed to be named until a permanent replacement is chosen.

State Attorney Steve Meadows says he did not take his decision lightly, but that there is no evidence of wrongdoing on the part of Dr. Siebert. Meadows chose Siebert as the interim ME for the area. 

A committee consisting of Panhandle Law Enforcement, funeral directors and elected officials will look at all applications and made a recommendation for a new ME to the Florida Medical Examiners Commission. They have 90 days after July first.

On the issue of the Girls Gone Wild case against video producer Joe Francis, Meadows says his office will not stop until
Francis returns to face charges against him in a Bay County Courtroom.
