One on One: Warden Joseph Ponte

Joseph Ponte was hired by Corrections Corporation of America back in January. He has been in the corrections field for 40 years and has a lot of experience under his belt. CCA has run the Bay County Jail for years and he was chosen to be the new warden.

County jails are difficult to manage because of the high turnover of inmates and staff. He says his job is to get things back on track and he has started by addressing the basic security needs of the downtown facility and the annex on Nehi Road.

When asked about recent complaints concerning the health care system inside the jail, the warden said he has heard those complaints and is working to make sure inmates are properly taken care of. There is always a nurse on duty to make sure those coming in are checked out right away and get the proper attention they need.

They have also set up a window outside the downtown jail for family members to get information on loved ones who are incarcerated. The window is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
