One on One: Zane Spitzer

On January 29th, voters in Florida will go to the polls in the Presidential Primary election. But they will also vote on a proposed property tax amendment. Proponents say the amendment if it passes, will give tax relief to homeowners. It doubles the homestead exemption from the current $25 thousand dollars to $50 thousand dollars, but there are stipulations.

The amendment would also allow homeowners to take their exemption with them if they move, making it portable. The proposed amendment also creates a 10% cap on assesed value for non-homestead property owners, which is designed to help small business owners.  The 3% cap on assessed property value for homesteaded properties will remain at 3%.  If you have questions you can call the Property Appraisers Office at 784-4095, ask for Dan Sowell. You can also get more information on their web site http/www.baypa.net

Bay County Property Appraiser Zane Spitzer explains in detail what the amendment could mean for property owners if it passes. Click below to hear his One on One interview with Amy Hoyt.
