Safety Issues On A Bay County Road

Tonight, some people say upgrades are needed for a Bay County road to make it safer.  The problem came to our attention in this email.  Stacy Howard of Parker sent in this message:
“Need stripes and lines painted on Bob Little Road from 7th Street north to 14th Street.  How could one determine if you are in your lane, this is a main route of traffic.”

Bob Little Road runs from Parker north thru Springfield not too far off of U.S. 98.  So, I took a drive to check out the problem and to see if it can be solved.

When driving on Bob Little Road, if you pay attention, travel is not too bad.  However, you can barely see what’s left of the center line on the connector street...due to time, vehicles and the weather.  People who drive here say it can be dangerous with no reference point.  And the situation only gets worse driving in the rain.  Night time travel is another issue.  Bay County resident Errol Barker says, “Very dark through here.  You can run off the road easy. Couple of years ago, there was an accident over here,.  So, what would you like to see done to this road?  It needs to be maintained.  Lined.  They need to keep us safe.” Other nearby streets as we could tell… No problem with striping.

Now, the striping problem lies within the City of Springfield.  So, I made a call and learned help is on the way.  Springfield Public Works Director Lee French tells me the city is aware of the problem and is in the process of getting quotes on re-doing the striping...but it will take time.  He says that work is contracted out and when costs are approved work can take place.  French says hopefully, the new stripes will be down in the next 60 days.  That should be a safer drive for all on Bob Little Road.

Mr. Jerry Brown, I would like to thank you for such a professional way in reporting a minor, but could become a serious issue if someone gets hurt, maintaince issue of our corridor routes of transportation.  I am impressed with your concern, especially nighttime travel, again Thanks.  Stacy Howard

i have just been on your site to apply for coupons for converter boxes....the only problem was i searched for a retailer to take the coupons too after they are sent out..there was not one retailer within 50 miles..what’s up with that...please look into...gas is too high to have to drive any distance...so what will the coupon be really worth..thanks for all the problems you solve..

Dear Jerry,

We have a serious problem happening at Rutherford High School.  During the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas, there was a group of students that were forced to sign a paper that was supposted to protect them from another student from killing them if they didn’t sign this paper. In the last week, the student who was threatening his classmates was arrested for plotting a killing at Rutherford, which is the school he attends.The only thing is that the students who had signed this paper are being suspended for 10 days or possable exspulsion. This situation is wrong and something needs to be done to help the children that were on this “kill list”. Jerry, please help us with this scary situation.
