Thursday Night Soccer

PANAMA CITY - A pair of intra-county soccer rivalries were under the lights in Bay County Thursday night.  With district tournaments starting on Monday, teams tried to keep their focus in these out-of-district games but pride is still on the line.

At Shamplain Sports Complex, the Arnold Marlins (16-7-1, 7-2-1) shutout the Rutherford Rams 5-0.  The Marlins led 2-0 at the half and added three more goals in the second half.  Oliver Nield scored the third goal on a free kick.  It was his 5th of the season.

On a breakaway, Tyler Evans was tripped up in the box.  Senior Mark Randazzo belted the penalty kick into the net to put Arnold up 4-0.

Late in the game, Evans added a goal of his own, his 32nd this season.

At Tommy Oliver Stadium, the Mosley Dolphins (6-10-1, 2-6) outlasted the Bay Tornadoes (15-2-3, 9-0-1) 2-1.  Mosley’s Salah Abouelazm struck first by tapping a shot that deflected off the post into the net for the Dolphins’ first goal.

In the 2nd half, Mosley added one more to take a commanding 2-0 lead.  Bay tried striking back, Mac Bonham put one in the net to cut the lead to 2-1.

Arnold’s regular season is over while Bay plays one more game Friday night against Lincoln at Tommy Oliver Stadium.

District Tournaments begin on Monday.  In District 2-4A, Bay and Arnold hold the top-2 seeds, respectively.
