One on One: Alan Thompson
They are called home equity conversion mortgages, but are commonly referred to as reverse mortgages. They are designed to give homeowners a loan based on the value of their house.
The financial option has been around since 1989, but has grown in popularity in recent years. Alan Thompson is a loan officer with P.T.F. Financial in Panama City. He says the loans are for people 62 years of age and older. The reverse mortgages eanbles homeowners to tap into the equity of their homes. These mortgages are available from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). They are designed to be paid back, after the homeowners sell their house or pass away.
