One on One: Andy Phillips
The Panama City Beach Tourist Development Council spent less money this year to advertise spring break, but it looks like it doesn’t matter. Thousands of college students are flocking to the World’s Most Beautiful Beaches again this year. The used to fund $350 thousand dollars, this year the board voted to only use $150 thousand to let college students know about PCB.
Chairman of the TDC, Andy Phillips says having MTV here this year helped. He also says individual businesses are spending their own money to attract the spring time visitors.
Phillips wears several hats. He manages Edgewater Beach Resorts, chairs the TDC and also serves as Chairman of the Board for the Bay County Chamber of Commerce. He says Tourism is the number one business in Bay County, and he is able to balance making sure visitors come to our area while keeping Bay County a great place to live year round.
He also addresses the debate over recent crimes in the area and if they are isolated incidents or a problem for this area’s image as a family place.
