One-on-One: Comm. Mike Thomas

When the Tourist Development Council voted to fire Executive Director Bob Warren a couple of weeks ago, no one knew how that decision would be seen around the county.  Beach Business owners were outraged and went to the county commission to voice their opinion.  The Bay County Commission oversees the TDC, and relieved all nine members of their duty.

Dist. 5 Commissioner Mike Thomas sits on the TDC. He voted no to fire Warren, because he said audience members that day were not allowed to speak out until the vote was over. That he says seemed backward to him.

The replacement of the TDC board now lies in the hand of County Commission Chairman Mike Nelson. He will choose nine people from a list of applicants, and the full board of commissioners will have to approve his reccomendations.

Commissioner Thomas says he has spent most of his life on Panama City Beach and believes things will get back to normal. You can hear his interview with Amy Hoyt by clicking below.
