One-on-One: Dr. Jim Kerley

Dr. Jim Kerley began his tenure at Gulf Coast Community College in June. He replaces retiring President, Dr. Bob McSpadden.

Dr. Kerley comes to Panama City from Lexington, Kentucky where he was a Community College President. He has 18 years experience. He says he was impressed with the residents of Bay County and their support for Gulf Coast, as well as a highly qualified Board, Staff and Educators.

Reacting to the Governor’s request to not raise tuition, community colleges will have to tighten their budgets. Dr. Kerley says Gulf Coast will do that, and there shouldn’t be any budget cuts this year.

As for the future, he would like to see the community more involved in any changes, and he wants to make sure the military community is taken care of when it comes to higher education.
