One on One: James McCalister
Superintendent James McCalister says balancing the budget is required by state law, and this year that budget is more than $16 million dollars less.
In recent workshops, McCalister and the School Board are looking at ways to make cuts without endangering the education of Bay County students.
But it’s a complicated process and a tough decision for all. That is why McCalister says they are open to suggestions from parents and teachers.
One Suggestion is to change school to a four day week. But reaction has been mostly against. Parents are worried they will have no where for their children to go on that day out of school. Teachers say they would lose a young childs attention span later into the day on the four days they are in the classroom.
Another budget cut proposal from the Superintendent is to close or repurpose area schools. The Superintendent says he will reveal at Monday’s workshop, which schools could fit that category.
