Residents Tired of Sewer Smell Near Their Homes
Imagine this...you are working in your yard enjoying being outside. Then all of a sudden...you get a whiff of a terrible sewer smell. Residents of a Panama City neighborhood say that is the case for them and they want it fixed once and for all. Here is their story in this Problem Solver report.
Residents of Park Place just off of Airport Road in Panama City want something done about their “smelly” problem. They say the source of the odor is a sewer line located behind their homes.
P-J Gerondale has complained about the issue for about two years. She says, “there was a cave in, the brick part of it had caved in, and it took us months to get that done (repaired). Very nauseating…you can’t even be outside at nighttime.”
Greg Gordon, another Park Place resident, has also filed many complaints with the city over the problem. He is concerned that the offensive odor may be coming from a hole in the ground next to the sewer line. Gordon says, “some evenings it is real bad…some evenings it is not so bad.”
Gordon says crews came out and did repair work on the sewer line about six months ago. He told News 13, “the guy from Louisiana supervising over the repair work said it was one of the worst he has ever seen. I just want the problem fixed...that’s why I contacted you.”
News 13 took this issue straight to the utilities department. I was told Ron Morgan, Utilities Director, is the only person to give us information on what can be done to resolve the sewer line issue. He will not be available until later this week. We will stay on this story and give you an update on what will be done about this sewer smell problem.
