Community Response Boosts Salvation Army Donations and Supplies

When the call goes out to help those in need the panhandle responds.  And that is especially true in Bay County.  Recently on Problem Solver, I told you about the critical shortages of food and other supplies at the Salvation Army in Panama City.  And, many people have stepped up and offered help.
The Salvation Army in Panama City has been stretched for some time in donations.  The Army says about 100 or so family and individual cases needing help per week were depleting food and other supplies.  But, the situation now looks better.

Since Problem Solver aired our story three weeks ago, the Salvation Army has received about 3,000 canned and dry food items.  Gulf Coast Community College and Surfside Middle School held food drives along with churches and businesses.  More food donations were dropped off at the administrative office.
The Army received over $10,000 in monetary donations to help its food pantry.  In addition to food, there were much needed donations of furniture and clothing for the family thrift store.
The Salvation Army wanted us to pass sincere thanks to the community for the great support .  But, it also stresses the need for these donations to continue on a regular basis.
You can drop off donations either for the food pantry or the thrift store warehouse at the Salvation Army headquarters located at 1824 West 15th street in Panama City.  Keep in mind, if you have large furniture items to donate, call the Salvation Army to come pick them up.  The number is 769-7788 Monday thru Saturday.
You can also give monetary donations.  Send your checks to the Salvation Army, Post Office Box 540, Panama City 32402.
