So Close To Being Grand
PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. - Four hours and 20 minutes.
That is how long it took Barry Carr and the crew of the Sea Wolff to reel in the winning blue marlin in the 23rd Annual Bay Point Invitational Billfish Tournament.
It’s not easy finding a more lucrative business than pulling in a fish that’s worth more than $230,000!
The official weight of the 136 inch marlin was 998.6 pounds. It goes down in the books as the second largest marlin ever weighed at the Bay Point Marina.
Carr also caught and released two white marlins, two tunas, a wahoo and a dolphin.
Conrad Hawkins owns the record blue marlin of 1,046 pounds caught in the 2001 Billfish Tournament.
Carr is too familiar with catching massive marlins. In 2002, he recorded a Gulf of Mexico record with a 1,054-pound marlin. Likenesses of both of these fish can be seen in the lobby of Captain Anderson’s Waterfront Market on Panama City Beach.
