Tawanna Meadows Runs for the Gold

PANAMA CITY- Former Rutherford Ram 3-A 100 meter state champion, Tawanna Meadows had a pretty eventful week.

Last Friday she was in Eugene, Oregon competing in the United States Olympic trials, trying to qualify for the 100 meter dash in the 2008 Olympics coming up in August.

Meadows missed the mark to qualify for the quarterfinals of the trials, but the Rutherford grad enjoyed the once in a lifetime experience.

“It felt like the Olympics. They say the Olympic trials are harder than the actual Olympics. It was a very tough and hard experience, but I loved it,” said Meadows.

“I’m just thankful that I got a chance to go to the Olympic trials. Not too many athletes can say they went. It was about a thousand athletes that actually qualified and they only take the top three from each event. For a relay they make take six in total. I was just thankful to get a chance to run against all the elite sprinters of Nike, Addidas, Asics and all the other sports out there.”

Meadows has been invited to run for the United States Under-23 National Team in the North America and Caribbean Atlantic Championships held July 14th, through the 21st in Toluca, Mexico.
