Acting Their Age At Cheerleading Camp
PANAMA CITY, Fla. - Since it’s summertime, the Bay High School cheerleaders have a chance to prepare the younger generation with a 3-day camp for children ages 3 to 14.
Three-years-old is not much of a stretch from the terrible two’s, but there is no better cheerleading squad to get these girls to act their age.
The Bay High girls have won the 5A State Championship five times in the last six years.
From the campers tiny shoes, to their tiny spirit fingers, to the tiny laces on the tiny shoes that are more often that not untied comes the fifth year Bay High has hosted a cheerleading camp.
Are you having a lot of fun?
“Yeah, it’s fun,” four-year-old Aleia Meyers said.
This is the first time Meyers has attended a cheerleading camp.
What is your favorite cheer?
“When they lift me up,” Meyers said. “Let’s go ‘Cats!”
Bay High cheerleader, Terrica Turner, went to this same camp 10 years ago. Which gives her a good idea of what Meyers is going through this week.
“I had a short attention span then,” Turner said as Meyers runs away from her group during a cheer. “But it was fun, I learned a lot.”
One-hundred kids have been registered for the 3-day camp.
Are you making alot of new friends here?
“Yeah. Cassidy,” Meyers said pointing to her friends. “The girl over there with the pink bow in her hair, and her and her.”
“It’s more funnier get to cheer for your team,” six-year-old Cassidy Jones said. “Let’s go Rebels!”
While the campers run circles around the cheerleaders, they can’t help but enjoy these little bundles of energy.
“It gives us leadership,” Bay High cheerleader Kimberly Ramsey said. “We’re giving back to our community cheerleaders. It’s fun for us to teach them and just have fun.”
