Bay Point Billfish Tournament- First Weigh-In

PANAMA CITY BEACH- The crowd having to sit patiently tonight for roughly two hours after the scales opened up before the first boat came in.

Just after 8 o’clock, a home town boat the first boat to come in, the Cazador, from Bay Point bringing three dolphins and one wahoo, to be weighed in.

Chipley angler Mickey Sears brought in a 34.1 pound dolphin.

The largest fish on the Cazador, a wahoo reeled in by Panama City Beach angler Merrill Goolsby, tipping the scales at 44.3 pounds.

The two anglers talk about the past 24 hours.

“Well, it was hot. You miss the comforts of home with a center console boat with no air conditioning. The boats name is the Cazador, which means hunter. So, that’s what we went out and did, but any day on God’s aquarium is a good day, so it was worth it, well worth it. We’re looking forward to doing it again. We’re looking to get out of here at about midnight tonight and do it again. Hopefully we’ll have some bigger fish for you to weigh tomorrow,” said Sears.

“The weather was nice. It was hot. The wind stopped blowing, but we found a nice weed line and we trolled it with some live bait and got some nice fish this evening. We came back in because we can in the boat that we have. We going to refuel and go back out tonight. Go back out tomorrow, and see what we can do,” said Goolsby.

Two more boats weighed in on the first night.

Up To It, and the Share-E, and up to it ends up winning the heaviest fish award of 10- thousand dollars.

Bringing in a wahoo that weighed 50.3 pounds.

The Share-E is currently sitting second with a wahoo of 47.6 pounds.

This leader board could change Saturday after the second weigh-in session.
