Bay Rushes To Stop Mosley’s ‘Backs
PANAMA CITY, Fla. - It’s a heated rivalry as two Bay County schools prepare to go head-to-head when the Mosley Dolphins and Bay Tornadoes continue it’s rivalry Friday night.
The Dolphins have won two of the last three years, including winning last year 28-6.
The Tornadoes got off on the right foot in their season opener last Friday against another county-foe, Arnold High School, 29-18.
The concern for Bay this Friday will be stopping the Mosley ground attack. Mosley head coach, Perry Brown, has a theory if he was coaching against his team.
“I don’t know. I coached against some teams that run similar stuff what we do here. It makes it tough, you know you have to cover all three running backs and be aware that after they get lulled to sleep a bit, you slip somebody out on a pass and they get wide open. A lot of teams play man coverage on us.”
The Tornadoes gave up well over 250 yards rushing to Arnold, and it doesn’t get any easier trying to stop the running back tandem of Tommie Rogers and Enrique Davis.
“Tommie Rogers is very elusive, fast, and he’ll hit you,” Bay defensive end Brian Gilbert said. “Enrique is a combination back, he’ll take it to the outside. You just gotta play team defense and play every play. The one play you take off, he’ll go 99 yards. Both of them.”
The focal point for the Mosley defense will be Bay quarterback Bert Reed, who combined for 173 total yards on foot and threw the air last week against Arnold.
“We need to stop the running game and on top of that they go to the spread,” Brown said. “They put Bert [Reed] in the shotgun and he’s capable of doing a lot of things. He’s a very gifted athlete.”
Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. at Tommy Oliver Stadium.
