Bay Takes To The Air
PANAMA CITY, Fla. - Things couldn’t have been better after Bay High School’s 21-0 win over county-rival Arnold High School last year. Since the opening night win, the Tornadoes dropped four straight games and finished the season at 5-6.
The Tornadoes open the season up, like last year, with the Marlins on Aug. 25.
Bay head coach Mike Healey said that his team has a solid foundation to build on. His team’s strength is the return of the majority of last year’s running backs and wide receivers.
But, the Tornadoes have lost most of it’s offensive line. That’s where the work will come in.
Quarterback, two-sport star and senior Bert Reed, returns for his senior season. Healey recognizes Reed’s leadership and has tossed some new niches in the playbook.
“We’ll try to throw more this year, [Reed] has strong arm,” Healy said. “We didn’t let him throw it deep too much last year.”
“We’re throwing ball deep a bit more, make them play us,” Reed said. “We’ll go deep in one-on-one. We have a nice group of receivers, they’re all learning. It was a learning process last year, so we should catch more balls.”
Beside Reed’s arm, Healy said he’s a “real threat” on the ground. Reed was clocked at Florida State’s football camp at 4.31 in the 40 and 4.35 at the University of Florida’s camp.
