Blountstown’s Full of Confidence
BLOUNTSTOWN- The Blountstown High School football team has its eyes set on a state championship. The Tigers certainly have the tools to do so.
Blountstown will be good this year.
Just ask senior quarterback Corey Cox.
“I know we’re going to win,” Cox said. “We come out here and practice hard; harder than anyone out here.”
And senior running back Ryan Baker.
“Yeah, we gotta take it all the way this year,” Baker said. “If we don’t, it’s a bust.”
The reason the Class 2B Tigers are so confident is because of who they have on their team; three Division One college prospects. Baker has committed to LSU, senior wide receiver Jon Lockhart to Georgia Tech, and Cox has about a half dozen schools contacting him, including Auburn and Georgia Southern.
“You know you got kids that are very capable out there on the field,” Blountstown head coach Greg Jordan said. “It doesn’t matter how good a coach you are, you must have good players around you.”
“During the games, the leadership shows on the field,” Lockhart said. “We’ll keep our composure.”
Blountstown finished last year with a 12-1 record, losing to private school powerhouse Trinity Catholic in the semifinals. But the Tigers flex their muscle in the regular season. They have not lost a game since the 2003 season… 33 wins in a row!
“It’s nothing they dwell on, but we do take pride in the win streak and we’ll fight and keep it alive as long as we can,” Jordan said.
“We just want to keep tradition by keep winning and taking care of business,” Lockhart said.
The Tigers kick off their preseason classic against Liberty County next Friday in Blountstown. The regular season opens on Aug. 31 against Marianna.
