Breakaway Dragway

FOUNTAIN - If you’re into cars and don’t mind missing part of the NASCAR races on Sunday; you might want to check out the Breakaway Dragway.

Sunday’s are used more as family race days.  Every second and fourth Sunday of every month is called “Funday Sunday”.  Everybody is allowed to race, as long as your car or motorcycle is safe.

“It’s a hobby, just something different to do, you know, this is our sport,” driver Michael “Satch Mo” Howard said.  “Other than football or baseball, this is our sport right here. We just love it, we love hot rods. We love to tinker with cars.”

The dragway also houses competitive races on Saturdays; which are operated under the International Hot Rod Racing Association (IHRA).

“Next year we have three major events coming in for IHRA,” Breakaway Dragway manager Jerry Deason said.  “We’re really looking forward to having a bigger year than we are having this year, and so far this year, we are doing great with our program.”

Racing continues next weekend with bracket races on Saturday and open racing on Sunday.
