Chipola and Gulf Coast Split

PANAMA CITY - The Panhandle Conference features three women’s teams ranked in the top 12 nationally.  Two of those teams were on the floor Wednesday night at the Billy Harrison Field House.

Gulf Coast (14-1, 2-0) looks for it’s 10th straight Panhandle Conference title while Chipola looks for it’s third straight state title and return to the national tournament.

Freshman Jackie Sanders led the way for the Lady ‘Dores with 21 points in Gulf Coast’s 78-61 win.  Sanders hit several clutch three-pointers late in the game to hold off the Lady Indians.

Sophomore Shanea Cotton added 15 points.

To their credit, they hit three big three’s in a row,” Chipola coach David Lane said.  “Big shots by some freshman.  It’s the first round as we look at it.  They drew first blood.  We’ll see how things progress.”

Round two will be on Jan. 23 in Marianna.

Chipola won the men’s game 88-63.  Darryl McGhee scored 17 points to lead the way for Gulf Coast (5-13, 0-1).
