‘Dores Lose Hatfield’s Farewell Game; Lady ‘Dores Don’t
PANAMA CITY - Thirty-five years of coaching ends in an 88-75 loss to Okaloosa-Walton for Gulf Coast men’s basketball head coach Jim Hatfield.
Marcus Nicks led the Commodores (7-23, 1-11) in scoring with 19 points. Darryl McGee chipped in 16.
Gulf Coast could not stop the sharp shooting of Raiders guard Tay Waller. The freshman connected on 10 three-pointers for 39 points. Uriah Hethington added 13 points.
“I’ve coached for a long time,” Hatfield said. “I’m 63 years old. Right now I am physically drained. I couldn’t ask for a better place to coach, couldn’t ask for a better group of people to be around. It’s time. It’s just time to give it up.”
Hatfield was 48-67 in his four-year career at Gulf Coast.
The Lady Commodores (25-3, 13-2) won their ninth game in a row, defeathing Okaloosa-Walton 65-48. Gulf Coast will enter the conference tournament in Chipola on March 3 as the No. 1 seed.
