Emerald Coast Jags “Receive” Big Boost
LYNN HAVEN - The semi-pro Emerald Coast Jaguars, who play in the North American Football League, held try-outs Sunday at the Renegade Sports Center for the team’s second winter league season.
The Jaguars finished last winter’s season season with a 2-7 record.
Coaches and player said that last year’s team lacked heart and needed improvement on player participation.
But did they ever receive a big boost this season. Former Florida State University player and Mosley High School graduate, Vincent Burruss will be catching passes and returning kicks on this year’s team.
“His potential is unlimited,” head coach Kenny Herbert said. “He can beat you on both sides of the ball. His capabilities are just out of this world, there’s no other way to put it.”
Burruss averaged over 30 yards per catch and scored 11 touchdowns (8 receiving, 2 rushing, 2 punt return, 1 kick return) last season where he played in the Pacific Northwest semi-pro league with the South Sound Shockers.
“I can stretch the field, I have a good field sense,” Burruss said. “I know what I’m doing out there to give the quarterback more options.”
The Jaguars kick-off the 12-game season on Feb. 3, playing their home games at Port St. Joe or Panama City Christian.
