Field Dedicated To John Wesley Foster

PANAMA CITY BEACH - Field 5 at Frank Brown Park was dedicated in memory of John Wesley Foster on Saturday morning.

John Wesley was a healthy nine-year-old boy enjoying the afternoon playing football with his father in the front yard two days after Thanksgiving 2006.  With no warning at all, John Wesley collapsed.

His father, Mike Foster, administered CPR for about 15 minutes until the EMT’s arrived and shocked his heart on the scene and then several times at the hospital.  He suffered Sudden Cardiac Arrest.  The boy never had any signs or symptoms of any heart problems.

Foster feels that if an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) had been available, John Wesley may still be here.  That’s the reason Foster is making a push to have all sports complex’s equipped with AEDs.

“With the amount of people that are here each week, they should have at least four or five AED’s on site,” Foster said.  “CPR can only go so far.  The heart has to be shocked before you can revive someone.”

AED’s cost around $2,000.  If you’d like to make a donation to the John Wesley Foster Memorial Foundation to help raise money for AEDs, contact Mike Foster at (850) 527-1399.
