Field Dedicated To Wayne Boyd
LYNN HAVEN - Field No. 5 at the Lynn Haven Sports Complex will always be remembered in honor of the late Wayne Boyd.
The ball field was dedicated to Boyd on Saturday morning during the Opening Day Ceremony at the sports complex.
Boyd died of colon cancer on Feb. 21, 2007. He was 64 years old.
Boyd was best known for founding Bay County Amateur baseball in 1985. He also served as the general manager for more than 21 years.
Lynn Haven Mayor Walter Kelly said that Boyd touched more lives than he probably realized.
“Lot of kids that went on to do greater things because of his leadership and what he gave back to his community,” Kelly said. “He also spent many hours out on these fields to make sure the kids had a good place to play.”
Boyd also coached two Dixie Majors state titles, five Dizzy Dean championships and the only Florida American Legion Class-A State Championship in Bay County.
“We’ll always remember him,” Kelly said. “He was a legend in his own way towards baseball.”
