Fisher Speaks at FSU PC

PANAMA CITY - You can’t bet against new Florida State University offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher.

He helped develop offenses at both Southeastern Conference powerhouses LSU and Auburn. His hiring by Bobby Bowden might be one of the biggest off season coaching moves in the nation.

Fisher spoke at FSU Panama City Friday night in front of a crowd of more than 120 people.

“I love coming to speak and getting to meet they Florida State folks,” Fisher said.  “It’s always great to talk when you’re undefeated because they always believe what you say.”

Fisher was hired to try to stop the bleeding for an FSU program that has seen it’s win total slip from ten in 2003, to nine in 2004, eight in 2005 and seven wins last season.

His main concern is to get the ‘Noles to play with toughness, effort and discipline and it starts in the backfield.

“I think we have to get back to throwing the football efficiently,” Fisher said.  “We haven’t had a quarterback complete 60 percent of his passes since I think the 2000 or somewhere in that area.”

There’s been a dry spell with the running backs, too.  FSU has not had a 1,000 yard rusher since Warrick Dunn in 1996.

“Where I’ve always been, there has always been pressure,” Fisher said.  “I think that’s just part of the game and that’s part of the nature of college athletics today is what have you done for me lately and can you win and what we have to do.”

Florida State opens up the season Sept. 3 at Clemson.
