Ford Ironman Florida

PANAMA CITY BEACH- 22-hundred contestants took the plunge into the Gulf of Mexico behind the Boardwalk Beach Resort for the start of the 2007 Ford Ironman Florida. This kicked off the first event, the 2.4 mile swim, consisting of two complete loops.

After getting out of the water, the contestants made the transition from the wetsuits, over to the biking outfits.

Then, they set off for the 112 mile bike portion that went from Front Beach Road, up Highway 79, over to Highway 20, and then down Highway 231.

The bikers then made their way again back around to Highway 79, then back down the home stretch to the Boardwalk Beach Resort.

Then, the transition from the bikes outfits over to the running shoes for the final event of the triathlon, the 26.2 mile run.  The athletes took off down Thomas Drive all the way to State Park Circle.

The participants had to make two loops in the run to complete the 26.2 miles, and when it was all said and done, after a grueling 8:21:29, Stephan Vuckovic of Germany is your men’s champion.  He set the new course record by one second.

Not long after Stephan, fellow German, Nina Kraft, captured the women’s crown, completing the event in 9:05:35. She also set a new course record.
