Gulf Coast Sweeps Season Opener
PANAMA CITY - Major League Baseball pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training as early as Valentine’s Day, while opening day is on April Fools’ Day.
Junior Colleges work a little differently. Gulf Coast (#12) set out to defend it’s Co-Panhandle Conference Title on Saturday against Young Harris (#15) in a double-header.
The Commodores continued last year’s success winning both games. They won game one 9-5. Pitcher Bryam Garcia picked up the win in relief.
Gulf Coast won game two, but it wasn’t as easy. The teams were scheduled to play 7 innings, instead it was settled in 10. Cory Trudell got the game-winning base hit in the bottom of the tenth. Former Mosley pitcher Kyle Mitchell recorded the win out of the bullpen.
Firstbaseman Cody Chizmar went 5-for-7 on the day.
The Commodores play again on Sunday against Young Harris. First pitch scheduled for 12 p.m.
