Lady Gators Return Home!

WEWAHITCHKA- The Lady Gator softball team of Wewahitchka is still feeling great today after winning their second straight 2A state softball title yesterday down in Plant City.

Winning the game is great, but how about that homecoming parade the town threw in celebration of the team’s return?

The Lady Gators were so hot all year long; they had to bring them in on fire trucks tonight during the celebration, down Main Street in Wewahitchka.

It was a parade-like welcome home for the back-to-back champion Lady Gators.

There were fans, balloons and of course a podium. You have to have speeches at these types of events, you know.

The entire team was honored on stage. Each having on a state champion medal.

The Lady Gators finished off their second straight 2A title run with a 27-2 record, and it was a great feeling for first year Head Coach Coy Adkins.

“It feels awesome, it’s such a feeling of satisfaction of kind of a reward of a lot of hard work and dedication and hours these young ladies have put in, not only this year, but the years building up to this year. To do it back to back is real special,” said Adkins.

“It just feels like we proved to everybody we can do it again. It just feels like we accomplished something greater than last year,” said junior pitcher Samantha Rich.

PANAMA CITY BEACH- The Gulf Coast Triathlon is just one day away, so, if the athletes are not swimming, biking and running tonight, what are they doing?

Today is the day the athletes get to check in their bikes, and just relax at the pre-race dinner and athlete meeting.

Athletes and family members got to enjoy some pasta, salad and garlic bread, sitting down in relaxing fashion, something come Saturday, they won’t be able to do for a few hours.
